SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs moderately complex work in caring for grounds and public buildings. Work involves caring for and maintaining the appearance of grounds and gardens, maintaining, and repairing grounds keeping tools, supplies, and grounds equipment, and performing various gardening activities. Will work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Assist other departments as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs grounds keeping work, such as mowing and trimming grass.
- Waters, plants and trims trees and shrubs.
- Controls the advent of ant beds.
- Performs repair and preventative maintenance work on parking lots, roads, and sidewalks within campus.
- Performs routine maintenance on grounds keeping hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 70 pounds.
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, bend and climb.
- Perform vehicle cleaning and washing.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Safely drive university vehicles.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in grounds keeping preferred.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass.
- Knowledge of the hazards of safety precautions necessary in general labor and maintenance work.
- Skilled in the use of grounds keeping hand tools and equipment.
- Ability to maintain and care for hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds keeping and gardening.
