Academic Support Center

The Student Academic Support Center stimulates student success through a variety of student-staffed programs and services including the Writing Center, Peer Tutoring Center and Supplemental Instruction. All services provide academic support to students and promote lifelong learning practices. Student employees regularly engage in professional development training designed to help them excel in guiding their peers toward academic success. They work closely with faculty and staff to ensure the support they are providing is of highest quality.

Tutoring

A dedicated staff of student tutors provide assistance to their peers as they study and learn course material and develop skills that contribute to their success. Tutoring is available free of charge on a walk-in basis.

Peer Tutoring Lab: We offer tutoring in a variety of subjects in our lab located on the 1st floor of Dickey Hall. View the schedule for this semester on Schreiner One under the student tab in the tutoring section.

Writing Center

Writing Center student staff members help their peers become better writers. Students discuss ideas, present papers and improve their writing skills. Tutors approach writing as a process and help students at any stage in that process whether they are struggling to articulate an idea or are polishing a final draft. The Writing Center empowers students to learn in a peer to peer and collaborative environment.

Walk-in appointments are welcome upon availability of the tutors.

WRITING CENTER – DICKEY HALL, ROOM 106

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program that targets historically difficult (barrier) courses to provide students with resources to help them succeed. SI student leaders attend class lectures and then lead ongoing study sessions for students in the course. Attending SI study sessions is voluntary and provided free of charge to all students in SI designated courses. Join the SI Team

SI Schedule for this semester is available on Schreiner One under the student tab in the tutoring section.
