Summary:
Under the supervision of the Cardiopulmonary Services Medical Director and Department Director, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician’s orders, diagnostic, therapeutic and clinical assessments, provides patient education according to department policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
PEOPLE

Proper chain of command is utilized in dealing with problem areas or situations; d. Equipment is processed and available for the on-coming shift; e. All avenues to provide adequate coverage for the on-coming shift are exhausted; f. Emergency situations are responded to quickly
o Read and initial the department communication book
SERVICE
o Demonstrate efficient and effective decision making skills for the non-acute and acute respiratory care of the: neonate, pediatric patient, adult
o Notify physician and department supervisor when requests for service do not fit protocols or when patient exhibits intolerance to treatment
o Collaborate with healthcare team
o Implement respiratory interventions according to policies, procedures, and protocols
o Assume responsibility for patient transport as needed by demonstrating the skills and knowledge necessary to provide patient transport
o Demonstrate skills necessary to initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation and airway adjuncts for the adult, neonatal, and pediatric patient
o Maintain certifications and annual competencies
o Respond in a timely fashion to requests for service
QUALITY
o Attend all mandatory in-services and skills days unless on approved leave
o Satisfy requirements for state licensure in a timely fashion
o Maintain airway management certification
o Contribute to a clean, neat, and well-stocked work area
o Follow through on problem patients, equipment, or areas that may compromise patient care and safety of patients/family/and others
o Assist in cleaning, processing and assembling respiratory therapy equipment
o Follow CLIO, OSHA and hospital policy regarding procurement and handling of specimens and sharps
o Demonstrate ongoing awareness of and participates in the department’s QI initiatives
o Complete all audits or other assignments as assigned
o Identify potential areas for quality improvement
o Participate in solving identified problems
FINANCE
o Assess and document accurately the patient’s respiratory status and response to treatment
o Complete all documentation according to hospital and department policy and procedure: patient charges; treatment sheets; MARs; care plans; Patient/Family education; all department QI forms
