IslandWood Summer Camp Overview:
IslandWood Summer Camps on Bainbridge Campus invites children to discover a new way of seeing nature, themselves, and one another. In doing so, each person comes to understand their ability to change the world for the better. IslandWood operates traditional day camp programs for campers 4 years-old through those entering 8th grade. Running from late-June through early-August, these experiences directly address IslandWood’s mission of inspiring lifelong learning and environmental and community stewardship. Position Description:
Summer Programs Instructors work in co-teaching pairs to lead educational programming using a curriculum guide that integrates science, technology, arts, teambuilding, and adventure learning. We offer a variety of camp themes each week, which are designed to inspire creatively in instructors and provide an assortment of activities for the campers that come for multiple weeks. IslandWood’s Summer Camp serves children entering Prekindergarten through 8th grade.

Job Type: Seasonal/Full-time, Hourly/Non-exempt
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday
Work Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Job Duration: 13 June thru 02 August 2024
Start Date: 13 June 2024
Pay Rate: $21.00 per hour
Work Location: On site: Bainbridge Island Campus (Bainbridge Island, WA)
Benefit Package: This is a seasonal position entitled to sick/safe time at an accrual rate of 0.038460 per hour worked
Housing: This Position is eligible for on-site Housing, must be 18 by 13 June 2024 to qualify
Remote Work: This is an-onsite position with no remote work options

Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and teaching of week-long camp programs for children ages 4-15 that fit the assigned theme
- Abide by IslandWood’s safety procedures and protocols to ensure the safety of participants at all times. This includes but is not limited to daily attendance, monitoring camper water and food consumption, and reminding campers to reapply sunscreen
- Serve as a Mentor to an Assistant instructor
- Attend weekly debrief and prep meetings · Communicate with parents about highlights from the day as well as concerns, as needed
- Demonstrate IslandWood’s core values that enable teams and individuals to succeed with shared respect and purpose.

Required Qualifications:
- Current First Aid & CPR certification required
- At least two years’ experience in teaching (camp, environmental education, after school or classroom setting)
- Ability to work as a collaborative team member and co-teacher
- Comfortable working with kids of diverse ages, backgrounds, and developmental stages
- Strong work ethic, punctual, flexible, dependable, and responsible.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, campers, and families
- Skilled at spreading calm when responding to parent concerns and camper conflicts
- Must be 21 years old
