WILDWOOD RANCH JOB DESCRIPTIONS OVERVIEW, a Lifeguard should:
- Be on time and ready for each scheduled activity.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings each day and on Sundays.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with groups participating (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers.
- Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques according to the Behavior Management Policy to protect the interest of campers, staff and the camp.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
- Physical endurance to remain standing for consecutive hours at a time.
- Put the needs of the campers before your own needs/desires.
- Show love to all campers while they are at camp.
- Work alongside & support other staff you come in contact with throughout the day.
- Help campers keep the campgrounds clean by teaching them about the “Leave No Trace” concept.
- If staying on camp: Assist Leadership Staff during evening activities with chapel, snack shack, night games and bonfires.
- .If staying on camp: Assist kitchen staff, teen ministry leaders and LIT campers with meal set-up and cleanup as needed in the mornings and at dinners as assigned.
- Greet with great enthusiasm the bus when it arrives with campers from Detroit.
- Participate in skits and worship at Chapel as needed. Actively supervise and engage campers during Chapel.
- Encourage & build up the excitement of the summer theme, clean cabins and cabin competitions each week.
- Complete camper paperwork/staff evaluations as asked by the end of the week.
- Test the swimming abilities of each day camper at the beginning of each week of summer camp.
- Assist in directing summer staff in their responsibilities when at lakefront rotations.
- Participate in regular drills/exercises to evaluate the performance of waterfront staff in rescue efforts and emergency procedures.
- Maintain the waterfront and practices as in the ACA manuals.
- Conduct emergency procedures from the ACA and the Wildwood Ranch Waterfront Management policies.
- Maintain the bathhouse, shed, docks, rafts, equipment, and beach area in accordance with our policy and maintain the lakefront maintenance log daily.
- Participate in the weekly raking of lake weeds from the swimming area and the surrounding docks and rafts.
- Help conduct a pre/post summer inventory of equipment and supplies.
- To ensure the ratio of staff-to-campers is: one aquatic observer per every 10 swimmers, with a minimum of 2 on duty (lifeguard always present and will count as 1).
- For overnight camp & rental groups: To maintain a standard that all swimmers are judged on the basis of being a non-swimmer (and therefore, must stay in the shallowend, behind the buoy line); or those who are in the deep ends to have PFD on at ALL TIMES. (DAY CAMP: Swim Tests are conducted to determine swimmer ability).
- To maintain the water divisions that separate the shallow water from the deep water inside the dock, and the swimming areas from the water toys and boating areas.
- Help with all camp evening activities (night games, chapel, maintenance, etc.).
- Be an example of true Christian character and conduct.
