The Wall Street Journal video internship is an opportunity primarily for college juniors to work in our award-winning newsroom in New York. Seniors and graduate students enrolled in a degree program by the application deadline are also eligible to apply.

Your primary duties will include supporting the production of editorially sound and visually compelling videos, as well as publishing videos to wsj.com and off-platform sites including YouTube. You should have a strong interest in domestic and international news, as well as business and financial news. This is not an internship producing documentaries or hosting videos on screen.

Basic video shooting and editing skills, as well as an understanding of video formats and delivery methods, are necessary. You should be comfortable editing in Adobe Premiere and will set yourself apart if you have experience with graphics in After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. Social-media savvy or experience with vertical video is also a bonus.

You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of our audience across multiple platforms and is able to work independently under deadline pressure. Dedication to high journalism standards and excellent writing and reporting skills are required. A demonstrated interest in business reporting is a plus, though prior business/finance reporting experience is not required.

You should have completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional media organization or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please upload one PDF document (max. 10MB). Your application document should contain:

A cover letter, including a response to the following question: Based on the 2016 and 2020 U.S. presidential elections, what could news organizations do differently to cover the 2024 presidential election? (max. 800 words)

Your résumé.

Three examples of your published work detailing your specific role in the reporting and production. You may include a link to a website for video work samples.

The deadline to apply is Monday, Oct. 23, 2023 at noon Eastern time. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

TIMING:

10 weeks between mid-June and mid-August.

Only finalists will be contacted. We will review applications on a rolling basis and strive to make selections by the end of January.
